AGSV
Athletics 2013 – Grammarian Report
The 2013 Athletics season was held once
again during Term 3, over a short, intense 6 week season. Led by Captain Daniel
Bancroft, the squad boasted healthy numbers and great level of enthusiasm and
spirit in both junior and senior ranks.
The squad benefitted from expert coaching
thanks to past and present athletes including former Captain Hanson Wong (2012)
and long time ally and 400m specialist Gregor Evans.
The 2013 AGSV Athletics Finals were held at
Albert Park on Wednesday, with Camberwell's squad improving there performance
from 2012, accumulating more overall points and medals in a great day of
competition.
Over 75 events, CGS collected 11 gold, 6
silver and 7 bronze medals, finishing a
close 3rd to Trinity and Peninsula, with only a handful of points
separating 2nd – 5th placed schools.
The CGS U17 and Open age groups were
particularly strong, placing first and second respectively.
There were numerous individual and team highlights
during the day, with many athletes defying windy conditions to post personal
bests and further the cause of the team in style.
To start the meet, the Open 4x400m team of
Steven Clark, Nick Stragalinos, Matthew Woodgate and Daniel Bancroft finished
second, the third time in 4 years that the 4x400m has netted silver in the
opening event.

Rising star Connor McKee in the
U13 400m.
•
